Preference will be given to individuals with:

  • Driver’s license and minimum of 3 years driving in winter conditions (winter season only)
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Skid steer experience (winter season only)
  • Chainsaw and axe knowledge/skill (winter season only)
  • Snowmobile, snowshoe and trail groomer knowledge/skill (winter season only)
  • Experience with two-way radios
  • A wide range of tools knowledge/skill
  • Carpentry skills
  • Large vehicle maintenance knowledge/skill
  • Trailer driving experience and maintenance skill
  • Experience using tire chains
  • Mechanical experience
  • Outdoor guiding experience
  • Sled dog handling experience
  • Sled dog guiding experience
  • Veterinary experience
  • Animal husbandry experience

Requirements:

  • Legally be able to work in Canada
  • Hold a current First AID and CPR certification

Wage:

$16.00 to $25.00 an hour depending on experience

Position timeline:

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-orientated Assistant Kennel Manager to join our team and to care for our kennel of 180 husky heroes. Enthusiasm, dependability and a positive attitude are required! This person will help manage and oversee all daily operations pertaining to the running of our kennel, as well as properly implement training and daily oversight to maintain proper care and safety of our dogs. The ideal candidate will love dogs, have breed knowledge, and make cleanliness and sanitation a top priority. Prior kennel management and veterinary experience will be given priority. Experience working with multiple dogs, beyond personal ownership, is an asset. Will report directly to Kennel Manager. Start date of August 15, 2021.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include but are not limited to:

  • Must be active, energetic, outdoor-loving with the highest standards in dog care.
  • Communicate clearly, effectively and professionally with all staff.
  • Possess general knowledge of breeds and animal behaviour
  • Work to ensure the highest standards of day-to-day operations are met or exceeded
  • Maintain daily cleaning routines and maintain the facility in a clean, organized and professional manner
  • Ensure all safety standards, procedures and protocols are maintained, including ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the entire kennel for all dogs and staff
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies
  • Monitor the health of animals, and provide medications as needed
  • Assist with special projects, events and promotions as needed
  • Train, monitor and supervise staff to ensure the highest quality of care
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of all building equipment, supplies and dog equipment
  • Correspond with veterinarians on vaccine schedules and medical health information
  • Lead with integrity and maintain high standards. Be a positive example to co-workers
  • Be punctual and maintain excellent attendance
  • Social Media Savvy

Salary: $15.00-$20.00 per hour
