Adoption Update with Husky Heroes, Xaska & Quaid
In this edition of the Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours ‘Adoption Update’ we catch up with husky heroes, Xaska & Quaid.
We live in Calgary Alberta
When did you adopt your retired sled dog?
We adopted Xaska & Quaid in December 2020
Describe your family, partner, kids and other animals?
We are a ‘pack’ of 3 humans – Mom, Louis 14 and Hunter 15.
We have 10 fur babies in our ‘pack’… We have Xaska (15), Quaid (13), Minnie our Shih Tzu princess who will be 14 on Halloween. Spunky, a 3-year-old blind in one eye kitty, she was born that way, we rescued her. Superman, a 6-year-old giant cat who we rescued at 1 day old when his mommy died. We also have a rabbit, a guinea pig, a hamster, 2 chinchillas.
What motivated you to adopt a retired sled dog?
We lost our precious dog ‘Cally’ who was 14 in October and Louis really wanted to Husky, after much discussion we moved forward to inquire about adopting a Husky Hero from Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours. Louis was determined to have a ‘Big Dog’.
What do you love most about having an adoptee sled dog join your family?
Xaska & Quaid are truly the BEST dogs you could ever have. They fit right in and love all our other fur babies. Our blind kitty cleans Xaska’s face. They are gentle, kind and up for anything we ask of them. We love them so very much.
What 3 activities does your adoptee enjoy the most?
- Xaska and Quaid LOVE walks – we go twice a day for an hour each time.
- Xaska & Quaid love going to the river – They aren’t much for swimming, but really enjoy sniffing
the bank and dipping their feet in.
- Xaska is most enjoying being off-leash in the forest with Louis – Quaid hasn’t figured out he isn’t
allowed to wander off …. lol
What new skills did your husky hero learn since living with you?
Xaska and Quaid have mastered the stairs; they also know if they stand at the door we will take them
walking. They would go on a walk 20 times a day if we would take them.
Did adopting a retired sled dog meet all your expectations?
Adopting Xaska & Quaid has far exceeded any expectation we could have dreamed of!
