Sophie and Alberto are an easy going, friendly and calm couple who enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle as well as relaxing at home. No kids or other animals when Peach and Ulrich arrived, although we previously had dogs.

What motivated you to adopt a retired sled dog?

Seeing the picture and bio of each dog at first – they all looked friendly, intelligent, alert and well cared for. But then as we became more familiar with Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours website we learned more about the life of a sled dog, the staff, the importance of transitioning into retirement and a family/home to welcome them and continue to care for them.

What do you love most about having an adoptee sled dog join your family?

Seeing how gradually they continue to adjust to their new home. Learn and understand their personalities and how we bond with them. They are very smart, alert, and still very active in their retirement years. They are also so sweet and affectionate especially now that they are comfortable with us.

What 3 activities does your adoptee enjoy the most?

  • Rest in the living room moving from time to time to various favorite spots.
  • Going for long walks and sniffing around as much as they want.
  • Trying to chase rabbits and squirrels in the park!

What new skills did your husky hero learn since living with you?

In general leaning to adapt to their new indoor environment. Not sure if Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours team taught/trained them ahead but Peach and Ulrich are very respectful not jumping on people or furniture, virtually no barking. They also do well meeting other dogs and people in the park and like going to the fenced-in off-leash park. Now that we are into our fourth month of adoption and they are comfortable in their new environment we plan to work on new, simple command skills.

Did adopting a retired sled dog meet all your expectations?

Yes, the process was very clear and the support provided by staff was very much appreciated and helped us with the decision. The multi-step process really helped us feel sure we were making the right choice. We’re sure all dog owners say this but…Peach and Ulrich are the best dogs in the world!
