When did you adopt your retired sled dog?
September 2022. She was supposed to come home for a “one night sleepover” and never left
Describe your family, partner, kids, and other animals.
We are a younger couple with 2 cats. We recently purchased a home locally and have always wanted a dog. We weren’t sure if that was possible with our two older cats, but Katana was better than ever expected. Now all animals live happily together with lots of space to run around
What motivated you to adopt a retired sled dog?
When Gregg started working with Snowy Owl, we learned about their retirement process and how many lovely dogs needed good homes. Katana was actually the first dog introduced to us, and it was honestly love at first sight. We have always wanted a dog but we didn’t know if a puppy would be the right fit with our cats. Katana was immediately super sweet, and very calm so we decided to give it a shot. Long story short, she never left our house after the first sleepover. She is the sweetest dog, always up for a good hike or a couch day. We can’t imagine our lives without her at this point.
What do you love most about having an adoptee sled dog join your family?
She’s the biggest sweetheart and has brought so much love to our home. She reminds us to stay present, stay active, enjoy the little things in life and keeps us motivated.
What 3 activities does your adoptee enjoy the most?
- Hiking in new places
- If sleeping counts, sleeping
- Tennis balls … especially with a squeak
What new skills did your husky hero learn since living with you?
- Going indoors
- Going up and down stairs
- How to live with 2 cats
- How to come to her name, recall, and off-leash trained
- How to sit, shake both paws, and lay down.
Did adopting a retired sled dog meet all your expectations?
She’s better than we could have ever imagined. She is constantly exceeding expectations. We are so happy we went through this adoption process. Thank you snowy owl. We will take Brie next 😉
