When did you adopt your retired sled dog?

March 17, 2022

Describe your family, partner, kids and other animals.

We are now a family of 4. Before adopting Dolce, it was just Thais, Francesco, and our dog Thais rescued and brought from Brazil, Nina.

What motivated you to adopt a retired sled dog?

Nina needed a sibling. One of us is almost always home, but on the occasion that Nina was home alone, we noticed that she was bored and would get into trouble. We realized she needed company that we couldn’t provide, so we decided to adopt another dog for her.

What do you love most about having an adoptee sled dog join your family?

We love how much calm Dolce brings to Nina. Although we adopted Dolce for Nina, we love so much how vocal she has become. Once you start petting her, she becomes very demanding and very sassy (vocal) about receiving more pets – and we love that.

What 3 activities does your adoptee enjoy the most?

  • Attention, affection and petting
  • Long walks and hikes
  • Building her courage to dive into the rivers and lakes

What new skills did your husky hero learn since living with you?

How to sit, how to lie down, how to enjoy the AC (by lying on the couch right where the AC blows cold air.), how to be demanding and/or sassy, and how to be vocal.

Did adopting a retired sled dog meet all your expectations?

We had no expectations. We are so incredibly happy to have Dolce as part of our family and we would do it all again. In fact, we just might when we eventually get a third dog.
