Adoption Update with Husky Hero, Aldrin

Your name and the name of your beloved husky hero!

Dana & Ray with Onyx (Snowy) and, Louise (Milk River), and our newest bestist boy Aldrin!

Where do you live?

Aldrin has a new domain to call his own… He is now living the life of a retired Husky Hero in the big city (Calgary)!

When did you adopt your retired sled dog?

Aldrin was suggested to us in December by the Ultimate Snowy Mama Carlin. When we lost our boy Kaa, we were introduced to a few Huskey Heroes…. But Aldrin captured my heart right away in February! We met, then walked with him, and eventually, he came home for a visit in March… and never went back except to say goodbye to the wonderful staff at the Kennel!

Describe your family, partner, kids, or other animals

We love the outdoors, camping, hiking, and being with our adopted Huskies! I help out with and follow sled dog racing in Canada and the US! We have already adopted 2 Heroes from Snowy in the past and will keep our home open to retirees in the future… Hubby says a max of 3, and I say Huskies are like chips… You can’t have just one!

What motivated you to adopt a retired sled dog?

We believe in Snowy Owl Tours and their exemplary dog care. It is a privilege to have a Husky “choose” you to be their human and I will continue to offer these retired athletes a loving, happy, safe place to be whatever they wish to be.

What do you love most about having an adoptee sled dog join your family?

There is nothing more wonderful than having the love and trust of a Husky. Coming home and being greeted, snuggling on the couch or in the camper bed, and having those wonderful eyes meet yours with happiness!

What 3 activities does your adoptee enjoy the most?

  • Aldrin loves to be at your side. In the kitchen, on the couch, or out walking the trails he doesn’t stray far!
  • He loves camping and exploring the wonderful Alberta countryside… but most of all SNOW!
  • If Aldrin finds a patch of snow he gleefully rubs his face in it and rolls and squiggles in joy!

What new skills did your husky hero learn since living with you?

Aldrin waits his turn camping and won’t stray from our campsite! We were told he was a bit of a picky eater… Oh my, he is lined up with the girls waiting for any bits to come his way in turn. Watermelon is a favorite of all the pups this summer!

Did adopting a retired sled dog meet all your expectations?

Adopting a Husky Hero is a wonderful thing! We will keep adopting when the time is right…
