Adoption Update with Husky Heroes, Kramer, Wild Bill, Wyatt Earp, Pearl and Rocksteady
Your name and the name of your beloved husky hero!
I am Liisa and my partner’s name is Keith. My first husky hero was Kramer. Then we adopted Wild Bill, Wyatt Earp, Pearl and most recently Rocksteady.
Where do you live?
When did you adopt your retired sled dog?
I got Kramer in 2009, Wild Bill in 2011, Wyatt Earp 2012, Pearl in 2013 and Rockteddy 2016.
Describe your family, partner, kids and other animals?
A hubby and cats and chickens!
What motivated you to adopt a retired sled dog?
Kramer was basically adopted by a SnowyOwl employee and brought out to the coast. Kramer ended up adopting me and it just snowballed from there.
What do you love most about having an adoptee sled dog join your family?
What’s not to love !? I love giving them their own couch. I love when they finally realize what retired means and stop pulling when walking. I love it when they are off-leash with recall for the first time!
Rocky loves sleeping on the couch. He loves his long beach walks. (He traded snow for sand) and he gets to go on adventure walks once a week with a pack of 15 other dogs.
What new skills did your husky heroes learn since living with you?
On these adventure walks, he learned he gets a treat if he poses on a stump !!
Did adopting a retired sled dog meet all your expectations?
I had no clue what adopting a sledder meant. Kramer was my first. I was a cat person before I met Kramer. Kramer was basically a cat-dog. He opened my heart to dogs, to sleddogs, to old dogs. Kramer will have a special place in my heart for evermore and because of him, I’ve now adopted 5 sledders and one husky that should have been a sledder.
