There’s nothing we love more than watching our retired sled dogs settle into their next great adventure, especially when that adventure includes reuniting with a familiar face. Today, we’re excited to share an update on Arendale, a spirited member of our Frozen litter, who officially traded the trail for a half-acre haven in Kelowna, British Columbia.

HUSKY ADOPTION UPDATE: ARENDALE

Arendale officially joined her new family with Joanne and Spencer in March 2025, moving into a home that already held a very important resident: her former teammate, Kraken.

After adopting Kraken and falling completely in love, Joanne and Spencer found themselves thinking, why not get a dog for our dog? And so, Arendale’s next chapter began, one rooted in familiarity, freedom, and plenty of room to roam.

Arendale now lives alongside Kraken on their half-acre property in Kelowna, where the two retirees get to rediscover life together off the trail and into the comforts of home.

ARENDALE’S LIFE AS A RETIRED SLED DOG

Affectionate, energetic, and endlessly entertaining, Arendale has fully embraced retirement on her own terms. Joanne describes her as a “good-time gal,” always on the move when she’s not passed out in delightfully silly sleeping positions.

“When she’s not napping,” Joanne shared, “she enjoys disrupting quail conventions in the yard, teaching Kraken to dig, rolling in deer poop, and telling off Amazon delivery workers.”

Above all else, Arendale thrives on walks and hikes, soaking up every opportunity to explore her surroundings. Her love of movement is balanced by a growing appreciation for downtime, something that took some time to learn.

While Kraken was a Velcro pup from day one, Arendale needed a few months to understand that she was officially part of an indoor pack. “She had to learn that mornings are for snuggling on the couch with coffees,” Joanne explained, “not for trotting around the house howling for walks.” Once Arendale realized the walks always happened eventually, she happily aligned herself with her family’s routine.

THE PERFECT PAIRING

One of the greatest joys for Joanne and Spencer has been discovering just how affectionate retired sled dogs can be. “We’re always so delightfully surprised,” Joanne shared. “It’s been a welcomed surprise two for two now!”

Their adoption journey was guided carefully by Snowy Owl’s team, and when it came time to expand their family, Joanne and Spencer trusted the process completely. With so many incredible dogs ready for retirement, they asked Hannah, the adoption coordinator, to choose the right fit, and that’s how Arendale found her way home.

“Her aloof, carefree personality and independent nature has been very harmonious with our Precious Prince Kraken, who needs to be the centre of attention,” Joanne explained. Seeing just how unique each dog’s personality is has only deepened their appreciation for the care and expertise ingrained into the Snowy Owl pack.

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES

Arendale’s journey from working sled dog to cherished family member is a beautiful reminder of how resilient, adaptable, and full of love these dogs truly are. With space to roam, trails to explore, and a familiar teammate by her side, Arendale has found a life that suits her perfectly.
