We believe work and pleasure do mix, therefore at Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours you can expect the best in imaginative possibilities! Our all inclusive tours include the following opportunities:

  • Scenic round trip transfers in our spacious, comfortable 2011 Mercedes Sprinter vans. Enjoy this service from most all hotels in Banff and from our office in Canmore.
  • Informative 30-minute pre-tour introduction and instruction into the exhilarating sport of Canadian Dog Sledding with competent, friendly, bilingual instructors certified in First Aid, CPR and MORE.
  • Our comfortable handcrafted sleds are equipped with beautiful, warm Pendleton wool blankets, custom wind and water resistant sled bags along with luxurious 4 inch upholstery inside. These amazing sleds carry 2 adults, either riding or driving with an instructor or a maximum of 3 adults per sled following safely behind their instructors. Snowy Owl never overloads their sleds. Squeezing or forcing 4 – 5 people to ride in one sled with the addition of another person driving is uncomfortable and unsafe, not to mention inhumane for the poor dogs.
  • With plenty of opportunities to pick up mushing tips from the experts – you have the freedome to choose any of the following options:
    • You can relax in a cozy sled having one of our instructors drive your dog team.
    • Drive your own dog team “one-on-one” with your instructor.
    • Or, for our coveted signature option of experiencing the ultimate in adventure and adrenaline, drive your very own team with the company of your family and friends following closely behind your very knowledgeable instructor.
  • Cozy campfires, delicious hot beverages and tasty snacks are provided on every tour, or try our famous Native Canadian Campfire Lunch on extended programs. We realize the highest standards are essential to the quality and mystique of your experience on tour. We are also happy to accommodate and dietary requirements need in your group!
  • Many opportunities to interact and cuddle with our adorable, healthy, well-groomed pure bred husky teams! Rest assured our huskies sport beautiful, professional, clean sled dog “uniforms” so your interaction with them is more enjoyable!

Additional Services:

    • We offer warm, Glacier Sorel boots as well as high quality North Face Expedition gear for hire if required! Rest assured that our rental equipment is not whatever is left behind or sitting in a lost and found bin!
    • Snowy Owl has a professional photographer on site who will take photos of you as you depart on your dog sledding adventure! With respect, you decide if you would like to purchase the photos – we do not include them in the price in the event you decide not to purchase them.
    • While checking in for your reservation enjoy the warmth and comfort of our indoor gift shop with washroom facilities, a lounge for relaxing, video presentations and a vast array of souvenir gift items as well as technical outerwear for purchase!

The Powder Hound Express

The Powder Hound Express (2 hours) – 2 hours of Mountain Magic!!

Harness your dreams with the power and stamina of the true “Powder Hounds” of our majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains! In relating to our traditional huskies, you will develop a new-found perspective for the meaning of honest team work and over-the-top FUN !! Our gorgeous huskies will impress you on an exciting journey exclusive only to Snowy Owl!

At our half way point, take in the radiant views of the mystic Goat Pond while you embrace and cuddle with your new 4-legged friends. At the end of the trail, gather around a warm, cozy campfire for stories while sipping hot beverages and sampling our famous “mystery cookies”.

The Sunfeather Winterlude

The Sunfeather Winterlude (4 hours) - 4 hour Dreamscape!

Glide through entwined forests of towering black spruce gilded in mounds of fresh, delicate snow. Beautiful clean, crisp mountain air filled with frosty breath surrounds you as your team travels along the enchanting Goat Creek. Experience the oneness and synergy of your huskies while taking your place on the sled runners.

Take time off the sled to truly capture the astounding beauty of the day, irredescent skys swirling with patterns of wispy clouds. Your newly established canine friendships are your lasting reward. Enjoy photographing your favorite huskies and inspiring scenic views. As your instructor prepares our famous Native Canadian Lunch, sip delicious, hot beverages and relax in the warmth of the sunlight. It’s time to gather around the campfire and indulge in some real traditional Canadian cuisine!

Afterwards, take in “Post Card” panoramic views, while traversing the magnificent Goad Pond or Spray Lakes. Finish your program with another cozy fire and laughter in sharing your adventure with others while selecting the perfect photo from our on-site photographer.

Leap into action as your team regains full command towards the half way point! In these mighty solitudes, they say that if you’re truly listening you can hear the voice of the Spirit of the North…

Cozy-up to a crackling campfire and listen in on stories while enjoying our delicious Native Canadian Lunch, not forgetting the sweets of course! All this while your huskies enjoy their own snacks and snooze.

After lunch, it’s time to harness your huskies and prepare for the remarkable trek to Fortune Mountain!

As we glide through the pristine powder of the Spray Lakes Trails, watch for White Tail or Mule Deer, Elk, Moose, Lynx, Cougar or the elusive Wolf. You won’t want to leave!

Flight of the Great Snowy Owl

The Flight of the Great Snowy Owl (2.5 hours or 4.5 hours) Pick up wings and soar to new heights!

With lofty ambitions, climb aboard the Great Snowy Owl! Take in the magnificent views of the Goat and Sundance Ranges of Banff National Park. View the incredible jagged peaks of layered, twisted rock. You won’t just see mountains, you’ll see the history of 400 million years! Landing beside the beautiful Spray Lakes, your dog sledding instructor introduces you to your excited team of huskies. These are the days that dreams are made of!

We offer this program as a 2.5 hour where you can enjoy all features of the “Powder Hound Express” or a 4.5 hour where you can enjoy all features of the “Sunfeather Winterlude.”

We are the only company who can provide you with a helicopter flight to or from our dog sledding site. Please let our reservations team know which you would prefer.

Legends of the Snow Moon

Legends of the Snow Moon (2 hours) – ‘Enchanting and Romantic’!

In our culture as in many others, the moon lends itself to stories and romance! Snuggle under luxurious velour blankets as you travel trails of soft, glittering snow. Descend onto Goat Pond where the magic and beauty of the evening stars and moonlight create that marvelous, breath-taking atmosphere! Mush alongside a quiet river as your team transports you into the surreal stillness.

After your dog sledding excursion, cuddle your loved ones around a beautiful fire, enjoying hot beverages, baked hors D’oeuvres, sumptuous pastries and decadent cakes. We’ll reveal some dazzling philosophy held by our Natives and Inuit about the moonlit winter sky. If you’re celebrating a special occasion why not let us take care of the de-“tails”!

Ghosts of Fortune Mountain

Ghosts of Fortune Mountain (2 days, overnight, includes meals) An Adventure of a lifetime!

Escape with us and take a break from the pack to explore your inner “musher” on a 2 day winter getaway! Begin with soft, gentle trails then progress to navigating intermediate terrain. Keep your team on track over the frozen expanse of Spray Lakes, while keeping watch for the other 4 legged inhabitants frequenting these backcountry dreamscapes!

After a full day dog sledding, spend time praising your team for a job well done, while graciously offering tasty treats to your new furry friends! Assist your instructor in serving each husky a nutritious, hot, protein meal as they bed down for the night, dreaming of tomorrow’s trails!

As you cozy up to the warm glow of your campfire, enjoy a delightful and famous feast of “Family Label” recipes including luscious filet mignon, delectable veggies and sumptuous desert cooked fireside. Sip hot beverages while you learn the legend of our tipi and discover important beliefs and experiences of our Native and Inuit cultures. Spend the night in our warm, top of Everest, “North Face Inferno” sleeping apparel tucked away in our comfortable, fur lined, “North Face” winter expedition tents. Experience the legend of the sacred Buffalo and Snowy Owl!

Rise and shine to a hot and hearty campfire breakfast complete with freshly perked mountain coffee! Ready yourself for a full day excursion beyond the excellent vantage point of Canyon Dam. Team Enhancement offers your group some dynamic insight into quality leadership and how to be successful in life, work and pleasure. It can assist toward the development of effective business and life paradigms; ways to improve what your corporate group is already doing well.

Developing deep, honourable and committed relationships as a result of dissolving barriers between teammates. This allows the team and organization to operate efficiently while upholding the highest standards for themselves and the community at large.

This program is individually tailored for groups striving for a better understanding of how to effectively work together. The featured speaker is Snowy Owl owner and founder Connie Arsenault who has not only met 28 years of challenges, managing thousands of teams of canines and humans – and co-founded the Alberta International Sled Dog Classic and was the Western Regional Director of the International Sled Dog Racing Association.

There are many interesting similarities in interacting with both species – and this is all ‘driven home’ as your team learns to master the coordination of the dogs out on the trail. This is truly team building at its best!

Additional to Connie’s conference presentation, you’ll have the option of taking either the introductory or the half-day sled trips. If your thirst for adventure is greater you can add other longer and more intense adventure options, completely customizing your experience. These options enable you to mix and match to develop an adventure that suits you and your group the best! Add the following options to complete any of our tours!

Ice Fishing
We provide all the fishing equipment required to catch Lake Trout or White Fish in the crystal clear glacier fed waters of the Spray Lakes of Kananaskis Country. A professional fishing guide will accompany you. This option is available on the overnight program free of charge. Please contact us for pricing!

Snowy Mountain Winter Village
After your dog sledding adventure, snowshoe your way to our secluded winter village. Enjoy many different activities such as tobogganing, Inuit games, Quincy building, and animal tracking. Our Native Canadian campfire lunch will also be provided along with hot beverages! $85.00 per adults, $50.00 for children 8 and under plus applicable tax.

Snowshoeing
Add on to your tour an exciting outing of walking through snow. Learn about tracking, flora & fauna and the local mountains. Minimum 2 guest. $60.00 per person plus applicable tax.

Tails of a Shaman
Experience the Walk of Wolves featuring our wolf hybrid SHAMAN! Learn the history and culture of wolves as one of our expert interpreters guide you through this remarkable experience. Designed for adults and children over the age of 12 and must be in good physical condition to hike a minimum 3 km winter trail. $90 per person, per hour.

Igloo Building
Add an exciting activity to your group outing. Great for youth projects and corporate team building. We provide the instruction and equipment necessary to build the igloos. Minimum participants is 10. $60.00 per person plus applicable tax.

Meal Options
  • Native Canadian campfire lunch: Buffalo deli smokies and fresh baked buns, freshly baked Indian bannock, smoked beef or salmon, maple syrup and chocolate mints. Hot beverage served is spiced hot apple cider: $25.00 per person plus applicable tax.
  • Homemade Buffalo Stew: $10.00 per person plus applicable tax.
